The 35th President's Sunglasses

John F. Kennedy was a big fan of American Optical sunglasses. He wore the Saratoga, acetate glasses with a slight cateye, to many events. Since 2019, these glasses are again produced by American Optical in the USA. Handmade & with the best ingredients in the eyewear industry - nylon lenses and joints from Germany, acetates from Italy, built in Chicago.

The JFK Style

John F. Kennedy (JFK) was undoubtedly a major style icon of his time. As the 35th President of the United States of America, he embodied a unique style that became known as the "Kennedy style". JFK's style of dress was characterised by elegance, sophistication and a touch of nonchalance. He favoured tailored suits made of high-quality materials and often wore narrow ties. His preference was for classic colours such as navy blue, grey and brown. Kennedy was known for his attention to detail and liked to wear pocket squares, which complemented his outfits perfectly.

Another characteristic feature of JFK's style was his fondness for sunglasses. These sunglasses became a trademark and helped spread the "Kennedy look". The Saratoga by American Optical is one of the few classics still produced unchanged in the USA today.

JFK's influence as a style icon extended beyond clothes, however. He and his wife Jacqueline Kennedy also coined the term "Camelot" to describe an era of glamour and style associated with the Kennedy presidency. Jackie Kennedy, known for her elegant fashion style, helped establish the Kennedys as one of the most stylish political families in history. Even today, JFK's style is considered timeless. His fashion preferences have influenced generations of men and serve as inspiration for modern menswear. The combination of class, elegance and a touch of nonchalance that JFK embodied has made him an unforgettable style icon.
