Cockpit N-1 Bedford USN Deck Jacket - navy

The US Navy issued the N-1 Deck Jacket to all members of the US Navy in 1944. It became one of the most famous and widely used jackets in the US armed forces in the 1940s. The Navy N1 Deck Jacket was a rugged, warm and versatile jacket for crew members working on USN aircraft carriers and Navy ships. The first version of the Navy N1 Deck Jacket had an alpaca fibre lining; later this lining was replaced with wool. The Cockpit USA version has a polyester lining that is lighter and more comfortable to wear while retaining the look of the original alpaca lining. The jacket is made from a unique, robust Bedford corduroy. Extra warmth is provided by the hidden storm cuffs on the sleeves, which also prevent the knit from getting tangled in everyday wear. The USN N1 jacket is made in the USA and features a high quality finish.

 

 

The Bedford Cord found its origin in its namesake city New Bedford, Massachusetts, USA and is characterised by its high durability, which even made it the ideal material for upholstered furniture. The name corduroy comes from the characteristic longitudinal ribs, which are weakly pronounced due to the lack of filling yarn, but are nevertheless reminiscent of corduroy ribs. Due to its robustness and water-repellent properties, Bedford corduroy was used in the 1920s to 1940s as a pure cotton version, also known as "Jungle Cloth", for the clothing of the US Navy.
