MESSERSCHMITT® FLIEGER JACKET TYPE C

Due to the fact that German airmen weren’t equipped with an official flight jacket like the allied pilots were, many acquired a short fitting black or dark brown leather jacket on a private basis. A lot of these jackets were bought in then-occupied France. The French called these jackets “Veste de (Moto)Cycliste” which clearly indicates that it was some sort of bike jacket. But its design was well suited for rough use in cramped Bf 109 cockpits and provided enough protection from the elements.

Later on various styles of this jacket were very successfully produced in Germany and became an instant hit among young and fashion conscious pilots. At that time these jackets still weren’t an officially issued piece of garment. But authorities turned a blind eye because it was obvious that a well-made leather jacket was the ideal piece of kit for every airman in the Luftwaffe as it offered protection and defined the status of this elite unit.

Our jackets clearly exhibit many of the details which can be found on original jackets. We are not strictly copying one specific model but our Messerschmitt line can be regarded as a tasteful blend of the jackets that were worn back in the 30s and 40s.

The lavish one-piece back, zippered pockets, button cuffs, and the thick but supple mineral tanned aniline horsehide make our jackets so unique.

All important details:

  • Authentic hip-long flight jacket with slender but comfortable fit.
  • Made from mineral tanned, aniline dyed Italian grade A horsehide.
  • Available in both black and dark brown. A rare and luxurious leather that needs to be seen, smelled and touched to be fully appreciated.
  • One-piece back.
  • Skived seams with roll-over stitching.
  • Two slanted breast pockets without piping.
  • Two piped handwarmer pockets lined with napped soft cotton.
  • One zippered inside pocket with vertical entry.
  • Zippered cuffs with button tab.
  • Soft 100% cotton body lining with a velvet-like surface. Manufactured by Kindermann, Germany.
  • Sleeves lined with smooth and durable rayon serge, made in Germany according to BW mil-spec.
