Astorflex Stiefel - dark khaki waxed

The Astorflex boot is made of high quality reverse cowhide, which is exclusively vegetable tanned. The tannins for the tanning process are obtained purely from plants, and without the use of chromium-containing chemical agents.

This leather turns out with over 2.5mm particularly thick, but by a natural drum treatment in a water immersion bath, it receives a special softness and pleasant feel. For this reason, it is even possible to do without a separate lining leather, which significantly improves breathability.

The removable footbed is also covered with vegetable-tanned calfskin and does not require any further surface treatment. This allows the leather to better absorb moisture and optimally regulate the microclimate.

The Para outsole made of pure natural latex is also considered a special feature. This purely vegetable natural material is fully recyclable and contains no chemicals or petroleum derivatives. 

Fabio Travenzoli is the fourth generation to run the family business near Castel D'ario. Handmade shoes have always been the métier of small manufacturing and the high-quality, natural materials are also a tradition at Astorflex.

 

The roots of Astorflex go back to the beginning of the 19th century, when in Castel D'ario (Mantua) many small family-run workshops produced handmade leather shoes. After the First World War, many people returned home and rebuilt the manufactures. During this period, the small company "Fratelli Travenzoli" started to produce different types of shoes using the "Ideal" method (external stitching on the edge of the sole), a method that they remain faithful to today.

 

Today, in addition to traditional processing, the company also focuses on environmental sustainability. Astorflex processes only naturally tanned leathers. The leathers are tanned in a mixture of water and malted oak bark and mimosa. As a result, the leather is healthier, more skin-friendly and guarantees better sweat absorption for dry, odorless feet.Most of the soles are made of natural rubber, which is coagulated latex from the rubber tree (Hevea brasilianis). The various parts of the shoe are assembled with water-based adhesives.
