The properties of the "coin metal" copper make it the ideal material for writing tools. Copper has excellent corrosion resistance and is 100 per cent recyclable without any loss of quality. Copper is one of the most durable metals because it oxidises in air and the oxide layer is inherently stable and "self-healing". Even exposed to the elements, copper outlasts other metals and as a building material has a technical "life expectancy" of over 200 years. Interestingly, a germ-reducing, antimicrobial effect has also been clearly proven in clinical studies and copper door handles have reduced the germ count in clinics by over 90%.
