When Klepper sr. almost chomped his teeth on a laurel licorice in the fall of 2019, he came up with the idea: we also make The Best Laurel Licorice Ever. A laurel licorice that you won't cut your teeth on. And - in the words of Klepper Jr.: a laurel licorice that not only delights laurel licorice lovers, but also meets the taste of every licorice lover.

 

Apart from its role as a legendary miracle cure, bay leaf is best known as a seasoning in sauces, stews and marinades. Strictly speaking, this is also the key to the secret of the best bay leaf licorice ever. In fact, Klepper & Klepper have not made a classic bay laurel licorice with a superficially bitter laurel note, but have used bay laurel as a seasoning. The best laurel licorice is licorice with a touch of laurel. The laurel is clearly present in taste, but does not dominate. In the best laurel licorice ever, the licorice flavor dominates.
Immediately after deciding to develop The Best Laurel Licorice Ever, Klepper & Klepper set out to find the best laurel in the Netherlands. Usually, laurel flavoring is added to the laurel licorice - but Klepper & Klepper decide to use essential laurel oil. They finally discover this at the southwestern tip of the province of Noord-Brabant, at Gova bv, a family business for the organic production of bay laurel. The bay trees are cultivated as ornamental shrubs, but the pruning naturally produces bay leaves. These used to end up on the compost heap, but are now distilled into laurel oil. Klepper & Klepper have used this pure laurel oil to produce the best laurel liquor ever.
